Corporal Stephen H. Bunker (pilot), Paramedic TFC Mickey C. Lippy, and Sgt. Tonya M. Mallard, EMT (Waldorf VFD), were conducting a medevac transport of two critically injured patients, when enroute to the hospital, they encountered sudden adverse weather conditions. Trooper 2 was redirected to land at Joint Base Andrew's. A few moments later, at approximately midnight, communications were lost with Trooper 2, and Trooper 2 disappeared from radar. A multi-agency search was immediately launched, and the wreckage of Trooper 2 was found in a wooded area in Walker Mill Regional Park. Only one person survived, patient J.Wells. Corp. Bunker, TFC Lippy, and Sgt T. Mallard, along with the 2nd patient, A.Younger, did not survive.
Let us take a moment to reflect on this tragic loss of lives and continue to keep their families in our prayers.
